We often see users reaching for the Nullable type, which allows columns to store a Null value. Under the hood, this creates a separate column of UInt8 type. Today, mappings are essentially "pins" in the generated file. If a tool asks "what is column 137 mapped to?" and there isn’t an exact pin at 137, consumers usually fall back to the closest previous mapping on that line.
